Why do I have high blood pressure? For the past 4 months, my blood pressure has been pretty high. It wasn't high before I had my baby 5 months ago. I'm only 24 years old. I'm not overweight and I don't smoke. My blood pressure has been averaging in the 140's/90's.
My doctor has me keeping a log of my blood pressure for a few weeks, then when I go back she's most likely going to put me on blood pressure medication. I am about to start up birth control pills again, so she especially wants to put me on blood pressure medication since BCP's increase your risk of blood clots and having high BP makes the risk even greater (this just scares me and makes me not want to take the BCP's at all).
What could be causing my high blood pressure?? Stress? I feel I am too young and healthy to have high blood pressure...thanks for any and all info.
Hi, thanks for the answers...I drink more water than anyone I know. That's all I drink, other than an occasional beer and my morning cup of coffee.
My husband is military, so all of our health care is FREE, meaning the doctors aren't making any money off of me at all.

I discovered a couple of weeks ago that excess weight is not constantly thanks to excess body fat, a load of extra weight is basically lying around in your insides. I tried a new diet supplement that's taking the country by storm, it rinses out your insides. I don't comprehend how it works nevertheless I comprehend that I shed 17 lbs and four inches off my waistline! There's a risk free trial at http://cenapt.yourdailydiet.info

What Is High Blood Pressure?
High blood pressure (HBP) is a serious condition that can lead to coronary heart disease, heart failure, stroke, kidney failure, and other health problems.
"Blood pressure" is the force of blood pushing against the walls of the arteries as the heart pumps out blood. If this pressure rises and stays high over time, it can damage the body in many ways.

Blood pressure medication means you'll have to see your doctor on a regular basis - and each time you go, the doctor makes money off of you. Sounds like your doctor has a good thing going, doesn't it?
You need to ask your doctor about dehydration, because this is what is causing your high blood pressure. Explain to her about how not drinking enough water causes the body to look for the water it needs from the organs, and often taps the blood, since blood is made up of 94% water.
When you have her attention, tell her that when the body takes water from the blood, the arteries constrict due to less volume, and the blood thickens, causing the heart to have to work harder to pump the blood. Ask her if she would call this "hypertension".
Then ask her why she wants to treat your low water lever with medication, when all you need is water (and some salt).
She might get a dumb look on her face at the mention of dehydration, so you can explain to her that soft drinks, coffee, alcohol and other alternatives are diuretics that pull water out of you much the same way alcohol takes water out of your car's gas tank. Then there's the water loss from respiration and kidney function that doesn't get replaced.
Doctors advise to drink eight 8-ounce glasses of water per day, but have no idea why. This is the only instance of them telling you to drink water, and they don't do it that often. This is because there's no profit in prescribing water.
