It could be anything: being nervous, a high water/salt intake (which will raise your blood pressure temporarily). It also could be due to inaccuracies of the machine (if this was done at a pharmacy or supermarket) If it stays elevated for a long period bring it up with his doctor his next visit.

Hi normal blood pressure is taken when the person has been at rest for at least ten minutes. The perfect blood pressure is 120/60. If the bottom number on his blood pressure is 100 or 130 he needs to be seen by an MD. Blood pressure problems can run in families and it is best to have it checked and under control right away. There are so many things that cause blood pressure to rise, stress, anxiety, heredity, heart problems and many others. Check the blood pressure for a week at different intervals and see how it is. If it continues to be high definitely see a MD.

Blood pressure cannot be confirmed with one or two readings, because there is term called as white coat hypertension means high blood pressure only at doctor's office. May be due to anxiety.
So try to take blood pressure reading without anxiety and also immediate after physical exercise.

Do you mean 130/100? If so, he has hypertension (high blood pressure) and should get on medication to keep it down.
Untreated hypertension causes multiple problems, stroke, heart problems, and damage to other organs....to name just a few reasons.
Anything over 140/90 is considered hypertension that requires medication. Long term and possibly lifetime. Lifestyle changes can help reduce high blood pressure, meditation/relaxation techniques. In relatively rare cases (say 10% of the time) hypertension can be caused by the kidneys.
Age can also contribute to hypertension. You did not mention his age. Your brother needs to see a doctor about this problem. It will not get better on it's own. Treat your problem as soon as possible. Good Luck and God Bless.
