A typical pulse rate is 60-100. At 107 yours was slightly elevated. This can be due to anxiety, stress, caffeine, smoking, or exercise. This is the heartrate or the amount of time the arteries throb.
the blood pressure. The top number is the systolic. This measures the pressure when constricted. This number should be under 120 though 130 is acceptable. Your friend at 179 that is quite elevated and numbers this high are medicated. The lower number is the diastolic and is the pressure relaxed. A typical number for this is 80, 90 is too high.
Your blood pressure is normal. Your friend is not. He needs to be seen for this. Heart disease is genetic and he is at risk. At the very least he should get seen and be taking a baby aspirin a day unless he is allergic as a cardioprotective measure.

You have some bad habits that eventually will lead you a cardiovascular downfall. People who smoke constrict very small blood vessels that can increase blood pressure (BP) when you get older and your vessels are not a soft and pliable as they are when you are young. Your pulse can be faster especially if you are heavy in your weight, a couch potato, and a smoker with a bad diet. Your body is running on youth and the basal metabolism is running on high which in order to burn fuel to keep your body running increases the heart rate. Part of your problem is a sense of anxiety about your health. Change your lifestyle and you will be fine for years to come. Don't and you will become a medical provider's retirement. To good health and Good Luck.
